Her story may not be the typical ‘grass to grace’, but picture a once upon a time Kentucky Fried Chicken waitress who lost her dad at 12, fired up with a larger than life ambition, a dogged strength of character and laser focus of a speeding bullet. That is Mo.
Born in the UK, Mosunmola Abudu popularly known as Mo Abudu, hails from Ondo State, South West Nigeria. Mo and her family relocated back to Nigeria at age 7 and was sent to live with her grandparents in a relatively small town in Ondo State, helping them in their Cocoa farm. After about 4 – 5 years with her grandparents, following the death of her dad, Mo moved back to the UK to further her education at Hammersmith County Secondary School before moving to the Ridgeway School in Kent.
As a dreamer and extremely ambitious young woman, Mo worked so hard, trying her hands at so many different things and working many jobs — some she did in order to make ends meet, others because of her passion for them or because they gave her a sense of purpose.
After building a commendable reputation as a Human resource Specialist, affecting people’s lives and careers, Mo found her biggest passion – to inspire Africa! To achieve this, however, she ventured into Television.
Her goal was simple; to establish effective media platforms that would give voice to her passion to inspire Africa and to showcase the real face of the African continent—in all its beautiful and multifaceted dimensions—to the entire world. That gave birth to her critically acclaimed Talk Show, Moments With Mo – the first-ever syndicated daily talk show on African regional television.
With over 300 episodes and counting, Moments With Mo has given birth to Africa’s first Global Black Multi-Broadcast Entertainment Network – Ebony Life TV. EbonyLife TV will be launching to DStv customers in Southern Africa (including South Africa) on 10 September, 2014 and Mo would be 50 years old the following day. It’s double celebration for her.
Mo isn’t the typical ‘dreamer’; she’s a self-professed ‘big dreamer’ who knows what it takes to pursue a dream. This is why she’s our Woman of the month for September.
