Perhaps you don’t know but there is a right and wrong way to wash your face. If you follow the latter you would end up having a patchy and rough face. For a flawless face, you have to adopt the right washing technique with the right products. The following tips would help in that regard:
1.Using the wrong cleanser
The wrong cleanser would be too harsh or too mild. The right cleanser ought to completely remove dirt, makeup, and grime, but not take away too much of your skin’s natural oils or healthy cells. Try to wash your face twice daily. While scrubbing hard to cleanse thoroughly, don’t do it too harshly so that you don’t get your skin red and irritated or tight after drying.
2. Not cleansing in the morning
It is expected your wash your face before bedtime but you should also do so every morning. Even if your skin doesn’t feel dirty, don’t forget to wash your face in the morning. By doing so, you’re getting rid of the natural oils that have built up overnight.
3. Using hot water
A myth says that hot water opens pores and cold water closes them, this may not be absolutely true. The reality is that pores don’t have muscles to open and close. While hot water may feel good on your skin, it can mess with your skin’s natural, protective oils and lead to over-drying or over-production of sebum. You best bet is lukewarm water to cleanse gently yet effectively.
4. Exfoliating too much
Exfoliation is a healthy practice to remove dead skin cells, but do it with moderation. Reduce the use of harsh exfoliants by using sugar scrubs and fruit acids as they are more gentle. Try sticking to exfoliating once every week.
5. Rinsing your face poorly
When you don’t rinse your face well enough, it would lead to residue build-up, which can clog pores and dry out the skin. Rinse thoroughly, before the morning rush and temptation to sleep after a long day. Ensure you focus on the jawline, hairline, and nose because they tend to be neglected often.
6. Using towel to scrun your face
Pat your face after rinsing, please don’t rub. Rubbing can feel really good, but it tugs and pulls your skin, which puts your elastin at risk. Set aside a clean, soft towel to blot your fresh face for this regularly
7. Failing to moisturise immediately
Apply moisturizers immediately after cleansing. Do it while the skin is still a bit wet. This also applies to serums and special treatment products. Don’t wait until your skin is completely dry to apply moisturiser. It is harder for the active ingredients to sink into your skin when dry. This may also cause the skin to feel greasy or uncared for.
