My dear daughter,
When I was young and dating (mind you I did date a few beauties before I met the most beautiful girl in the world -your mother) one of the things I noticed with most girls was that they used words “carelessly” – saying so many things they did not necessarily mean; and treating utterances as if they were mere jokes.
My dear, one should have a sense of humour and enjoy the fun that is in life and living. However, I would like you to imbibe as one of the content of your character, the ability to be clear while engaging with people when you are jesting, and when you are being serious, so that you are known as a person who says what they mean and mean what they say. You should be a person who when they give their word, they honour it.
So my daughter, honour your words, but don’t expect others to do so, because the truth is that most people do not honour their words. You can be good to people, but don’t expect people to be good to you. If you don’t understand this, you would end up with unnecessary disappointments and troubles.
