My Dear Daughter,
A good friend of our family and an elder statesman said this often, “Let’s live our simple lives.” My dear this is a good phrase to bear in mind as you live your life; keep it simple and avoid complications.
You are aware that your father is a student of the Mammy Wagon Philosophers. One of the philosophies they espouse on the back of a lorry says, “No Hurry In Life.” My dear, please, also bear this in mind and take your time to chase your dreams and aspirations with no great hurry to achieve them as you savour every moment of the journey. Truth be told, the thrill and joy is in the journey and the goal once achieved always seems to be an anti-climax. So enjoy the journey and take in all the thrills – the ups and downs, the diversions and the right paths.
My dear, shun life on the fast lane. Those who chose to live on the fast lane often end in ignominy. The journey on this highway is full of uncertainty and could end abruptly. Life is relative and you should be very careful with what you get involved with. Partying, drinking, and carousing when one is young can be very tempting. The desire to belong to the class of the “happening girls” can also be very strong but at what cost to your character and sanity and well-being?
Life on the fast lane is transient and meaningless and does lead to fulfilment. Like a candle in the wind, it is easily extinguished.
My dear never be in a hurry to live “the good life”. Take it easy; be patient, you may desire to attain fame, status, esteem, wealth, and recognition and though there is nothing wrong with these, you just have to go about it in a cool, calm and ethical way. Do not allow the pursuit of earthly fame and fortune to becloud your persona, identity, family name, good character, nobility, dignity, and self-respect.
Love you always,
Dad
