Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has urged the Federal Ministry of the Interior to ensure that it budgets more resources for the numerous land borders across the gateway state in the 2016 Fiscal year.
Governor Amosun made this call on Thursday when the Minister of the Interior, retired Lt. General Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau, paid him a courtesy call at his Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta office.
The Governor said Ogun deserves such a special attention because it is unarguably the state with the highest number of land borders in Nigeria.
Governor Amosun added that on its part the state government is doing its utmost in developing these border communities through the provision of infrastructural facilities including good road network.
The Ogun State governor said the provision of good roads alone has the potential of opening up these areas to Foreign Direct Investments, encouraging Small and Medium Scale Enterprises as well as enhancing the livelihood of the people.
He also seized the occasion to request that the Federal Ministry of the Interior looks into the state of the Prison facility in Abeokuta.
Lt. General Dambazau (rtd) on his part said the essence of his visit to Ogun State was to enlist the support of the state government in the all-important task of dealing with issues of public safety and security in Nigeria.
“Without security there cannot be development not only for people to be able to sleep with both eyes closed, but also for Foreign Direct Investment,” the Interior Minister said.
