Vodafone Ghana, formerly Ghana Telecom, has announced a 70 per cent discount on current roaming charges for Hajj pilgrims this year.
This is to allow them to stay connected with their loved ones and pay less, during and after the season.
Joseph Babu, Head of International Business at Vodafone Ghana, disclosed the discount when he presented assorted food items and GH¢1,000.00 cash, to the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr. Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu, to support this year’s Ramadan celebration, which ended last weekend.
The donation of bags of rice, cartons of bottled water, cartons of non-alcoholic drinks and gallons of oil, is also to strengthen the company’s cordial relationship with the Muslim community.
Presenting the items at an impressive ceremony, in Accra, Mr. Babu said: “At Vodafone, we have been consistent with supporting and joining our Islamic brothers and sisters to celebrate important occasions on the Islamic calendar.
“We appreciate the significance of the fasting and will continue to support them.”
Over the past three years, Vodafone Ghana has supported the Muslim community during Eid-al-Adhar and Hajj, the annual pilgrimage to Mecca.
Responding, a member of the Advisory Committee of the National Chief Imam, Sardauna Ali Kadiki-English, thanked Vodafone for the kind gesture, and appealed to other corporate bodies to emulate the spirit of sharing which Vodafone continually exhibits towards Muslims.
