A careless non-security conscious new mother has handed a local lunatic the golden opportunity to murder her 12-month-old baby girl, Amina Osman, and dump her body in a pit toilet.
With the door into Jaliah Abdulai’s room hanging invitingly open Zakaria Zina, the mad man in the area, entered the room in Brohani, a community in Wenchi, late Prime Minister Kofi Abrefa Busia’s hometown, picked the girl, murdered her and threw her down the toilet.
Police Public Relations Officer ASP, Mr. Christopher Tawiah, disclosed that (on October 14, 2014, at about 2 p.m) the Assembly Member for Brohani, accompanied by Nana Siaka Yakubu, an opinion leader in the same community, lodged a complaint at the Wenchi Police Station that a known lunatic in the area, Zakaria Zina, had entered Jaliah Abdulai’s room, killed her and disposed off the body in a pit latrine..
He said Zakaria entered the house when nobody was around, murdered and dumped the child’s body in a pit latrine at the outskirts of the town.
Mr Tawiah said Zakaria later took to his heels but the police managed to apprehend him in no time. The police have also retrieved the baby’s body.
It has been deposited at the Wenchi Methodist Hospital’s morgue for autopsy.
Mr Tawiah advised the public to be security conscious and cautioned that “people should not leave their doors open when they are not around. We must be concerned about our own personal security,” he stressed.
He said that on its part, the police would continue to provide the needed protection and security to enable the public to freely and peacefully go about their daily activities.
