The Lagos State House of Assembly yesterday confirmed the appointments of Governor Ambode’s nominees into the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund.
The nominees are Ifueko Omoguiyi as the Chairman of the board while Akintunde Oyebode will serve as Executive Secretary.
Omoguiyi is a chartered accountant was born in 1962 and has over 30 years experience in financial and banking industry. She was an Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue (FIRS) between 2004 to 2012.
In her response to questions raised by the members of the House, Omoguiyi stated that one of the strategies that would be adopted as the head of employment trust fund would be the traditional way of contribution like ‘esusu.’
According to her, “eventhough we are a maiden body, we will start from already laid down template. Esusu preserves our traditional arrangement that have worked in the past will be tapped into.”
In his comment, the Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa observed that despite the nominee’s long years in financial matters that she had performed creditably well, she would have to establish a close relationship with the people.
Obasa maintained that the new task ahead of Omoguiyi would require meeting with artisans, market women among others who according to him, “they have the ideas but have no money to execute them.”
In a related development, the House has pardoned the six Tutor-Generals and Permanent Secretaries for their disrespect to the invitation extended to them to appear before the Committee on Education.
The Chairman of the Education Committee, Lanre Ogunyemi representing ojo constituency II, had informed the House over their refusal to appear before the Committee.
The spokesperson of the Tutor General, Iji Mary Taiwo apologized to the lawmakers for their actions. She said “I want to apologize on behalf of my colleagues for the actions, it was not intentional to disrespect the Honorable House and I promise not to repeat the same again.”
