A man who coveted his sister-in-law’s property and conspired with a friend to deprive her of them has bagged for himself 10 years with hard labour.
Justice Alkali Wakil of the Maiduguri High Court, who jailed Kyari Bukar of Ngomari ward of Maiduguri, for conspiracy and robbery, condemned Bukar’s action as “shameful and serious”.
Added the judge: “It is the highest ingratitude by Kyari and his partner in crime”.
Bukar Maiduguri was sentenced under sections 97 and 298 of the Penal Code Law of Borno State.
The court also sentenced the accomplice of the convict, Hamisu Haruna, to six months imprisonment.
The court was told that the convict, armed with weapons which included knives, cutlasses and sticks, broke into the house of one Hauwa Ngomari and carted away her property.
According to the police, the convicts had stolen necklaces, four handsets, gold earring and a DVD player, valued at N173,000.
The first convict, said to be a brother to the complainant’s husband, was also accused of attempting to rape one of the victims during the robbery.
