Nigerian striker, Alex Iwobi came to the rescue of his club, Everton after a goaless draw against Liverpool in a Premier League game on Sunday, June 21. He played from the right of midfield but with Liverpool dominating possession the whole time on the pitch, all he could do was help his side keep the shape.
Carlo Ancelotti’s maintained a strong defence all through the game giving Liverpool little room penetrate. To support the defence, Iwobi was given the job to help his side keep the shape which he did. He hardly left the Everton half of the pitch as he had to always check the run of the leftback James Milner and later Joe Gomez.
Everton’s strikes were rare and Iwobi only had one situation in attack where he threatened to create a chance. He dribbled inside past Milner and passed to Dominic Calvert-Lewin who was well checked by the Liverpool defence. By the 88th minute on the pitch, the 24-year-old had secured 25 touches only in football match at the Merseyside derby.
