Nigerian athlete, Tobi Amusan, thriving on her past victories on Sunday, won the 100m hurdles event at the Stockholm Diamond League. She finished the race with a time of 12.52 seconds, beating Sarah Lavin of Ireland (12.73 seconds) and Pia Skrzyszowska of Poland (12.78 seconds).
Amusan’s win is her second Diamond League victory of the season. Last month, she won the event in Lausanne, Switzerland. Currently, she holds a world record in the 100m hurdles, having set a time of 12.06 seconds at the World Athletics Championships in Oregon last year.
Her latest victory in Stockholm gives her an edge in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. Speaking after the race, Amusan said that she was “very happy” with her victory. She also said that she had been working hard in training and that she believes in her ability to win gold at the Olympics.
Amusan’s victory is a major moment for Nigerian athletics and pride for the nation. Being the first Nigerian woman to win a Diamond League event in the 100m hurdles is a landmark achievement.
