Troops of Operation Lafiya Dole have dislodged many Boko Haram insurgents’ hideouts in various locations across the state, with over 100 terrorists killed, several others arrested and arms and ammunitions recovered.
In a press briefing held at Operation Lafiya Dole Media centre in Maiduguri, the Media coordinator of the Operation Lafiya Dole, Col. Mustahpha Anka said that the troops also intercepted two female suicide bombers trying to infiltrate Maiduguri through Muna Dalti, 100 meters ahead of the military checkpoint, where they were halted but refused to stop, in the process the bombers blew off themselves but no casualty was recorded.
The military also called on the general public to be more vigilant and report any suspicious objects and movements to the nearest security outfit.
He said “the troops of the Operation Lafiya Dole recorded huge success within the period under review, troops of 25 Task Force and Civilian JTF in their routine operations had contact with Boko Haram insurgents in the process several insurgents were killed, while 50 motorcycles and three vehicles were captured and destroyed. At the end of the clearance operation unspecified number of locals who were held hostage by the insurgents was rescued”.
Col Anka said also along Damboa-Chibok road, troops of the Operation Lafiya Dole accosted unknown vigilante who claimed to be village head of Kopchi in company of 42 others, and were operating around Madagali general area, stressing that six among the 42 apprehended were carrying AK 47 rifles and 15 magazines.
“On 24th January 2016 at Chigun Gudu troops on a clearance had an encounter with insurgents. During the operations insurgents were dislodged. In the process one terrorist was killed, while several others sustained various degrees of injuries, two double barrel guns, 4 x 8mm round, one solar panel and mechanics tools were recovered”, Col. Anka stated.
The media coordinator, further stated that the troops of the 112 Battalion and AGQ special group of the Nigerian Army conducted fighting patrols along Gardawaji, Adoshe, Ahigin, Manauci, Sigafari, Bala gana, Mafa, Dikwa, and Kalabalge during the operations they had encounter with the insurgents where over 56 terrorists were killed, 8 AK 47 riffles, 3 RPG, 7 tubes, 1 GPMG and several other ammunitions were recovered.
