A group, the Concerned Edo Leaders of Thought (CELT), has refuted insinuations that the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie – Oyegun, has been eased out of office.
The group in a statement made available to newsmen by its chairman, Colonel Paul Ogbebor (rtd), asserted that having worked for close to two years, Chief Oyegun needs rest.
He added that as the pioneer chairman of the APC, he midwifed the national primary of the party which saw the emergence of Muhammad Buhari as the president of Nigeria.
“The significance of this electoral victory hinges on the fact that for the first time in Nigerian history, an opposition party unseated an incumbent president of the ruling political party,” CELT stressed.
It described Chief Oyegun as “a national hero for giving the people of Nigeria a new lease of life with the change they demanded and secured with a well-earned victory at the 2015 elections.”
In conclusion, the group said that it views “this untoward development with much concern, we have to state categorically that Chief Odigie – Oyegun represents our collective aspirations for an inclusive polity and as such we’ll not countenance any attempt to scuttle his service to his fatherland.”
