Members of three popular charismatic church in three different suburbs of Accra are counting their losses after a thief that specializes in depriving congregants at prayer is now chatting with the Teshie police.
Police sources disclosed that on On August 17 the thief, Isaac Oppong Asante, left his base at one of Accra and traversed to the end with three popular churches and set to work to better his economy.
The 19-year-old student is in the custody of the Teshie District police in Accra for allegedly stealing from churches in the vicinity.
The first stop of Asante (19) was the Light House Chapel International at Teshie Lascala where he helped himself to a black lady’s bags containing 1 Samsung T-Mobile phone and a charger, a Holy Bible, lip gloss, lip aids and a comb.
From there Asante moved to the International Central Gospel Church, entered its multimedia room and stole a Dell laptop computer.
Asante’s next stop on that busy day was the Global Evangelical Church but seeing that he was being closely monitored, he quickly skipped to the Perez Chapel.
At the Perez Chapel, Asante found it closed but on the advice of a suspicious member, one of the pastors kept Asante under close surveillance.
When Prez Chapel pastor’s attention was momentarily distracted, the adroit thief sneaked out of the church, taking with him his haul from the first church and another bag containing a second Dell laptop.
By then, however, Asante had exhausted his bowl of luck and was consequently arrested.
His first victim at ICGC was then called to come and identify the laptop in Isaac’s possession, whereupon with the help of others Asante was arrested and sent to the Teshie Police.
DSP Agbodeka added that shortly after, the second person from ICGC also came to identify her ladies’ bag and its content, sequel to which Asante admitted the offence in his cautioned statement
He will have his day on court soon.
