Readings: Genesis 1:1-19; Psalm 103; Mark 6:53-56
Let’s focus on the text of today – we have an account of the first recorded words spoken by God. He said, “Let there be light.” Our God is a God of light, there is no darkness in Him and He doesn’t operate in darkness.
Unfortunately, we live in a world that is full of darkness. So many people are living in darkness – the darkness of bondage to sin, the darkness of concealed iniquity, the darkness that we have plunged ourselves into because of hatred, evil and a wicked mindset, the darkness of ignorance, the darkness of unbelief, etc.
What God said at creation, He still says today – let there be light. The difference is that in this case, He wants us to open ourselves to the light and in turn, be the light. No wonder that He says, “You are the light of the world.”
Let us open our hearts to the light and wake up to our responsibility of being the light of the world. Let us once more hear the Word of God “Let there be light” and respond, “I am here Lord, as your light.”
