Days where smiles gladly hung on the faces of these youngsters
Where beauty was regarded as a trait of the heart
Where peaceful crystal rivers flowed through the veins of the land
Where our pride was lay in the ‘dark’ melanin of our skin
Days where corruption was extinct in this sun-burned savannah
And our legacy, engraved on the hearts of our children
Our culture, the proud lion of the ‘dark’ continent
Those days were washed with the rain
Oh Africa!
Why have thou fallen?
Memories are all we have left to share
Our fertile soil desecrated by the innocent bloods we’ve shed
Hear the cries of our fathers of old
As they watch their legacy eroded from above
The stench of our forgotten culture fills the land
The horns of our fallen heroes blast the sound
Saying…
‘Everyone is a prisoner’
Imprisoned by our own minds
Which has forgotten the cause that left gunpowder
On the lifeless bodies of our forefathers
‘Everyone is a prisoner’
Jailed by ignorance
See our sons refusing our names
The pride of our daughters has long been maimed
‘Everyone is a prisoner’
Captured by our very hands
Hear these words, no one is safe
Everyone’s been jailed
