There is no way R&B music would be mentioned without a few groups that have left a mark as indelible as Boys II Men. With their soulful harmonies, heartfelt lyrics, and timeless ballads, they have become one of the most iconic and influential male vocal groups in music history.
Boys II Men originated in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1988. The group was founded by Nathan Morris and Marc Nelson, who were later joined by Wanya Morris, Shawn Stockman, and Michael McCary. Their name, inspired by a song by New Edition, reflects their transition from boys to men, symbolising growth and maturity.
Their breakthrough came in 1991 with the release of their debut album, Cooleyhighharmony. The album was a commercial success, producing hits like “Motownphilly” and “It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday.” Their smooth blend of R&B, soul, and new jack swing captivated audiences and established their reputation as a powerhouse in the music industry.
The group’s success continued with their second album, II, released in 1994. This album solidified their place in music history with hits such as “I’ll Make Love to You,” “On Bended Knee,” and “Water Runs Dry.”
