Set on the mission of eradicating preventable eye blindness from Nigeria and Africa, our Woman Crush Wednesday, Dr. Chioma Mary uses her platforms to educate people on the importance of eye health. A Nigerian-trained optometrist and eye health educator, she is currently a resident eye doctor in one of the leading eye clinics in Lagos.
Dr. Chioma had struggled with an eye condition unknown to her during childhood and early adulthood that affected her academic performance. She later discovered this during the clinical practices in her pre-medical school. According to her, the leading cause of preventable blindness in Nigeria and Africa is ignorance and lack of knowledge. Hence, she has invested heavily in a social media campaign addressing and educating the public on quality eye care practices.
She has also published on eye health conditions and the eye care industry in blogs and forums, most notably Eyefrica Media. Having distinguished herself in eye health matters, she has been recognized and featured in magazines in Nigeria and other African countries.
Dr. Chioma would like to be known as a doctor who played her role in every way possible in reducing the causes of preventable blindness in Nigeria and Africa. For being a problem solver, we applaud Dr. Chioma Mary. We can’t help but admire her passion and commitment to a very worthy cause.
