Nigerian design label, Maki Oh’s latest collection is oh-so playfully charming. Designer, Amaka Osakwe, is one to draw inspiration from unexpected places and events and this collection isn’t left out of her idealistic gracefulness. Being inspired by the ancient Yoruba trick ‘arodan’ (were playful kids are sent on a deceptive journey), this seems to be her most fluid collection yet. We love it and we are sure you will too. What we think: This has to be the first Maki Oh collection that makes us uber-excited. While deviating from the norm – but still staying true to its ‘unusual’ essence, unlike previous…

“Abeg, which man will want to marry this one?” That was the line I waited for, but wished my friend was sensible enough to avoid using, regrettably he blurted it out without a moment of thought. You have to have been living under a rock or busier than the rest of us not to have heard, or seen (or both) blogger, Linda Ikeji’s latest materialistic acquisition; a ‘more than 500 million naira’ house – some call it a mansion. For those of us who saw it, we unconsciously fell into five different Nigerian-orthodox categories: those who were prompted to have…

The above throwback photo of American singer and fashion icon, Cher, gives proof to why we couldn’t not want this trend back in our lives. Glancing at any prominent Nigerian fashion designer’s look book, you’re likely to see a boldly written heading saying: “Spring/Summer blah blah blah” or “Autumn/Winter blah blah blah”. Why? It’s thin enough…

Truth be told, social media is bomb! Not just because it keeps you engaged with diverse people, but you also get to learn a lot about the cultures and traditions of others. An added benefit is, you get to stalk – in a not so creepy way – your crush or something cheesy like that, and you also get to know if the guy/girl you’re about to go on a date with is a serial killer or serial lover. Still there are limits. The other day I overheard a lady, poker-faced, telling another that she cannot survive a minute without…

Gone are the days when certain sartorially refined outfits are paired with just heels and dress shoes. The world of fashion is evolving, and as such, doing away with one-way, implacable rules that had our imaginative spirits caged. A lot of us are however still skeptical: “How do we incorporate them into our wardrobes? They just seem out of place amidst our calibre of clothing”. Well, if you’re one of those…
