Dear Dorothy,
Is it normal to feel confused, lost, or uncertain about what you’re meant to do or where your path lies? I am at a stage in my life where I don’t know the next move. I feel there is more I should be living for but I don’t know how to go about it. This is making me feel depressed and inadequate. Please help me out.
Worried and discouraged,
Priscilla
Dear Priscilla,
Firstly, know that you’re not alone in this journey. Many people grapple with similar feelings, and it’s okay to feel unsure at times. Here are some steps that may help you navigate through this phase:
- Self-reflection: Take time to reflect on your strengths, passions, and values. What activities or experiences bring you joy and fulfilment? What are you naturally good at? Sometimes, our purpose aligns with our innate talents and deepest desires.
- Explore new opportunities: Don’t be afraid to try new things. Explore different hobbies, volunteer work, or career paths that pique your interest. Sometimes, purpose reveals itself through unexpected experiences.
- Seek inspiration: Look for inspiration from role models, mentors, or stories of people who have found their purpose. Their journeys may offer insights or spark ideas about your own path.
- Embrace growth: Understand that purpose can evolve over time. What felt like your purpose in the past may not resonate with you now, and that’s okay. Embrace personal growth and be open to new possibilities.
- Listen to your intuition: Pay attention to your intuition and inner voice. Sometimes, our gut feelings guide us towards our true calling. Trust yourself and follow what feels right for you.
- Seek support: Don’t hesitate to seek support from friends, family, or a professional counsellor. Talking about your feelings and thoughts can provide clarity and perspective.
Remember, finding purpose is a journey, not a destination. It’s about aligning your life with what brings you meaning and fulfilment. Be patient with yourself, stay open to new experiences, and trust that clarity will come in due time.
Wishing you courage and clarity on your journey,
Dorothy
