What happens when a woman decides to use her knowledge, voice and career to stand up for justice and create space for others? You get a woman like Onyinyechi Amy Chinekwu Onwumere.

With an LLM from Brunel University of London and an LLB from the University of Abuja, Onyinyechi believes the law goes beyond books, courtrooms and legal arguments. It is also about people, their rights, their voices and the kind of society they deserve to live in. This belief has shaped her career and taken her into the world of democratic governance, human rights, peacebuilding and social accountability.

Her work sits comfortably between law and development, allowing her to bring a legal perspective to issues affecting communities while keeping people at the heart of the conversation. Today, as a Legal and Programme Officer at CISLAC/Transparency International Nigeria, she is involved in work that advances civic education, electoral violence mitigation, peacebuilding, and community resilience. Onyinyechi works on initiatives aimed at helping people become more informed, more engaged and better equipped to participate in the issues that affect their lives.

Her work has included facilitating regional peace accords and contributing to early warning systems in high-risk areas, experiences that have given her a close look at the importance of dialogue, prevention and community participation in building lasting peace.

She is passionate about ensuring women, young people and persons with disabilities are not left out of important conversations. Through leadership and political education programmes, she helps nurture active citizens and encourages more people to find their voices and take their place in society.

And if there is one thing that brings all these interests together, it is storytelling. Onyinyechi understands that sometimes, a good story can do what a long policy document cannot. Through her writing and storytelling, she turns legal insights and development work into narratives that people can connect with, understand and reflect on.

It is this combination of purpose, knowledge and an obvious desire to see others thrive that makes Onyinyechi Amy Chinekwu Onwumere our woman crush this Wednesday. Pride Magazine Nigeria celebrates her for the work she is doing, the people she is empowering, and the difference she continues to make.
