Today’s man crush is Oshone Anavhe, and for almost a decade at different startups, he has used the power of technology to drive disruptions to positively transform the African agricultural sector. Oshone is currently the Vice President, Operations at ThriveAgric, an agritech company focused on enhancing the profitability of smallholder farming.
Oshone is passionate three things: startups, the agribusiness, and sustainable social impact, and these have influenced the path he has taken. Prior to ThriveAgric, he worked at Câm as Operations Lead and helped set up the field operations unit of the company, sourcing fresh milk daily from smallholder dairy farmers for processing at the factory. Oshone also worked at Babban Gona, another agriculture-focused social enterprise, where he held different positions, and rose to the position of Regional Manager. At Babban Gona, among other responsibilities, he was in charge of building the last-mile supply chain, allowing smallholder farmers to maximize the sale of their produce, while generating substantial returns for the company.
At ThriveAgric, while overseeing a team of over 2,000 full-time and contract staff across more than 10 states in Nigeria, Oshone has helped the company to increase its farmer network which currently stands at more than 200,000 smallholder farmers. This result stemmed from notable changes related to accessing finance, data-driven advice, and premium markets.
Despite his extensive knowledge and experience in the agribusiness space, Oshone is still keen on learning, adapting and innovating. Last year, he participated in the Agribusiness Management Programme at the Lagos Business School. He also holds a BEng in Electrical & Electronics Engineering from the University of East London and an MBA from the Nigerian Defence Academy.
Beyond the world of agriculture and business, Oshone takes great pride in his role as a husband to Buchi, and as a father to their daughter. Join us today in celebrating a true man of substance – Oshone Amavhe.
