- 14 For this reason I kneel before the Father,
- 15 from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name.
- 16I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being,
- 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love,
- 18 may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ,
- 19 and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
- 20 Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us,
- 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.
This is a beautiful and marvellous prayer! Paul humbles himself before God by kneeling before the Father to make his supplications for the Ephesians. We should always approach God with a humble and contrite heart.
We, every single one of us belong to one family in Christ through the heavenly Father from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name.
All requests were for the spiritual good of the Ephesian brethren. We should entreat God to endow us with the spiritual graces that we need for a successful and fulfilled earthly journey and to inherit a place in his heavenly abode at the end of our journey here on earth, that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen us with power through his Spirit in our inner being.
May God also inspire us to know him, to rely on him always, to be filled with his spirit and power, to grasp the depth of the love of Christ and to know this love surpasses knowledge—that we may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
May he who created us and knows all our needs, supply all we need and ask for that is beneficial to our lives here on earth and the hereafter. God is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us.
In all things, may God be glorified through Christ forever and ever. Amen.
