The eighth leg of the much publicized Star Music Trek was a fulfilling moment for music enthusiasts on May 17th in Benin, capital of Edo State. With superstar artistes like Wizkid, Olamide, Davido, Dr Sid, KCee and others, there is no denying that organisers delivered on promises, leaving the crowd at the Ogbe Stadium with an unforgettable experience.
Observers say the massive turnout of fans was unprecedented, as there has been none like it in Benin City, in recent times.
Dr Sid’s boundless energy spurred his legion of fans who enthusiastically strained against the barricades repeatedly hoping for a handshake or even ‘selfie’ with the Dorobucci star. In deference to his fans, the artiste played hits like Afefe, Surulere, Lady Don Dada, Dorobucci and more, setting the mood for the evening of fun.
The electrifying duo of KCee and Harrysong spiced up the night with everything they had going for them: their unique outfits, stage presence, dance steps, pulsating songs, Bulienu Jesus, Pull Over, Limpopo, Akuna Matata and other hits.
Davido’s energetic dance got the crowd screaming. The artiste, who performed for the first time on The Trek and the second time in Benin, was evidently excited to be on stage and mesmerized the fans with his stagecraft and popular songs. Of special note was his latest single, Aye which immediately threw fans into vigorous dancing with extended calls to the singer for more songs.
With hits such as Ilefo Iluminati, Downlow, Durosoke, Olamide took the show to another height, with his ‘Voice of the Street’ slangs. The rap artiste got fans dancing and singing along, all through his performance.
It was Wizkid’s first show on Star Music Trek, and the pop star did not disappoint his fans. Wizkid was at his best as he stunned fans with an exciting medley of his award-winning songs, including Caro, Jaiye Jaiye, On Top Your Matter and more.
Wizkid, who has had an astronomical rise in the music industry, was supremely confident as he took over the stage, belting out songs in quick succession and eventually bowing out to resounding cheers from delighted fans.
Numerous talented home grown artistes lit up the Star Music Trek stage displaying their vocal prowess in different genres.
The show continues this Saturday in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State. The last edition is expected to be in Lagos, at the Jalisco Open Field, Oshodi on May 31st 2014.
