The just concluded Met Gala didn’t slack in giving us a show-stopping, intriguing fashion experience. Pop artist, ‘bad girl Rih Rih’ and artist turned designer, Victoria Beckham, stood out in an all-white glory – stunning was the word. Do you think this haute trend can only be pulled off on the red carpet? Let me prove you wrong. Ever heard of Lisa Raye? I recently just came across this name (I do wonder what rock I’ve been living under). Lisa is an American actress cum fashion designer, but the fascinating thing about her is not just who she is, neither is it what she does, but it is her unique style. She wears all-white, all-the-time!
Lisa’s ‘all-white’ signature continues to make a strong fashion statement in the world of fashion; amazingly, she manages to pull it off exceptionally well. I absolutely love the all-white trend, but I must admit – with both hands in the air – that this trend is a huge style risk. To many, it may seem a little like mission impossible, but you need not swap spirits with Tom Cruise to conquer this trend. A little fashion challenge never hurts and if Lisa Raye can pull it off, anyone can, but you have to be prepared. There are pros and cons to consider.
Pros: If you want to feel fresh and crisp clean, wear white! As a guest on the Wendy Williams show, Lisa talks about her obsession with white, she says, “…I just feel fresh and clean and just like an angel”. She couldn’t have said it better, who would not want to feel angelic?
If you are looking to achieve a chic, minimalist look, wear white! You would not have to worry about matching colours or accessories; everything is in the same hue. This also is a solution for those lazy days where you just can’t deal with trying to figure out what to wear. Throw on white.
If you need an outfit to take from a day to night time look, wear white! Because of the flexibility of this trend, it can effortlessly be dressed down or jazzed up to your liking.
Con: The only (serious) disadvantage is the fact that white is susceptible to dirt. If the colour ‘white’ were to be a hero in a movie, its villain would certainly be ‘dirt’. Therefore while wearing white, it is required that you are extremely careful, if you are too carefree and clumsy, chances are that you’ll end up with an all-stained outfit. So, if your job requires you to run around a lot and be very hands on, stay clear of this trend – at least to work.
Dear ladies-in-white, it is time to paint the town ‘white’.
