It will be battle royal next weekend, during the grand finale of the Etisalat-sponsored Nigerian Idol reality show, when the two finalists, Evelle and Eye-D will be slugging it out for the coveted prize of N7.5 million, an Android tablet phone, an ipod, an incredible recording deal with Universal Music Group, and a trendy new Hyundai SUV.
Elvis Jay, had been evicted previously, making him the 2nd runner up, and winner of the N1m, an android tablet, a phone, and an ipod. Whoever is being defeated between the last two women standing also becomes an automatic winner of N1.5m, an Android tablet, a phone, an ipod, and a brand new car, being the organisers’ promise for the 1st runner up.
Last weekend’s show was particularly enthralling, leading to heightened emotions. It was also clear on whose side some of the judges belong. But perhaps clearer is the fact that Darey Art-Alade prefers Evelle, whom he described as having no competitor. While Nneka Egbuna may have preferred Elvis Jay, who incidentally has been evicted, Dede, it appears has a soft spot for Eye-D. The voting public too, seems to be in favour of Eye-D who has been bagging higher votes.
Interestingly, the two finalists, it would be recalled were being returned to the competition through the judges’ Wild Card, after securing the lowest votes from the public.
It was a touching moment for both when they did duet of Onyeka Onwenu’s ’You and I’, with which they closed the show Sunday night, after singing three songs each.
The show which airs on Saturdays and Sundays on NTA, STV, HIP TV, CRBC Calabar, DRTV Warri, and Startimes Channels also promises to give each of the contestants from 4th to 10th place a cash prize of N100, 000, a Galaxy Tab, a Blackberry and an iPod.
