After the exit of Ms Oge and NyroLove last weekend, there was obvious tension, as the remaining eight contestants (Eye-D, Beebee Bassey, Xolani, Antwon, Jessie Raey, Lisa, Elvis Jay and Evelle) performed various popular songs which they hope will keep them in the competition.
Xolani opened the show with the popular Hallelujah song by Rufus Wainright and delivered on the song as the studio audience cheered him on. Lisa was up next with her rendition of Bryan Adams’ ‘Everything I do’. Jesse took us down memory lane to the Aladdin days as he sang ‘A Whole New World’ by Peebo Bryson, while Beebee Bassey took to the stage to give her rendition of the song used as a soundtrack in The Pretenders movie, ‘I’ll Stand by You’.
Antwon on the other hand performed John Legend’s ‘Who did that to you’. Eye-D was next in line to show her talent and she did so with her rendition of Diana Ross’ ‘He Lives in Me’. The next performance was by Elvis Jay as he took to the stage with Aerosmith’s ‘I don’t want to miss a thing’ and finally, when it was time for Evelle to put up her performance, she sang Smile by Natalie Cole, the soundtrack for the movie Modern Times. Her performance was described by all the judges as one of the best for the night and a good one to wrap up the show with.
Having watched all 8 contestants put up brilliant performances, viewers now have the final say as they decide who stays in the competition through their votes. However, one question that will be on the minds of the contestants is who will remain in the competition?
However, encouraging the contestants to continue to put in their best and be mindful of their choice of songs, Hip-hop artiste and guest Judge on the show, Mr MayD said that he was impressed at the quality of the contestants who have made it to the top 8 stage. He urged them not to be nervous as the home audience would vote for the most confident and highly skilled vocalist among them. MayD noted that he had watched the show from the audition stage and had a strong conviction that only the best had made it thus far in the competition.
