Africa is a big continent of the world. It usually has a tropical climate. So it is a common myth that snow does not fall in Africa. However, this is not so as there are countries that experience snow falling. They are:
- Lesotho
Bordering South Africa, Lesotho is quite cold and snows a lot. The peak of winter lasts from June until August. During winter, temperatures can be very low and can reach 0 degrees Celsius.
- South Africa
With a unique climate, South Africa typically experiences freezing winters, with temperatures as low as -16 degrees Celsius because of its location close to the South Pole. Winter usually lasts from June to August in some regions.
- Morocco
Its closeness to the European country of Spain, the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean make Morocco have winter temperatures. This can range from as low as -5 degree Celsius to -8 degree Celsius, depending on the zone. It usually snows between December and February.
- Uganda
Rwenzori Mountain is located close to Uganda’s border with the Central African Republic. The mountain is quite cold as it has glaciers, snow and ice. Temperatures usually range from 20 degrees Celsius to -5 degrees or lower.
- Tanzania
The tallest mountain in Africa, Kilimanjaro is in Tanzania. The mountain became cooler than the rest of Africa as a result of the equatorial trade winds and high-altitude anti-trades. Do you know that at the top it can get as cold as -15 to -29 degrees Celsius? This usually happens more often in June, July, August, and September.
