MOVIES
Half of a Yellow Sun starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Thalie Newton, Genevieve Nnaji, Onyeka Onwenu, O.C. Ukeje and Zack Orji
Finally, we heave a sigh of relieve that weeks after the movie premiered, the Nigerian government has allowed the ‘Half of a Yellow Sun’ to premier in cinemas across the nation! This Biafra war story of love and more might not have made any remarkable box office appearance, but the production is a sign of what Nigerian actors and actresses can do given the right resources! If you’ve read the book, ‘Half of a Yellow Sun’ written by Chimamanda Adichie, I won’t lie, you will not enjoy the movie as you did the book. These notwithstanding, the movie is one flooded with Nigerian actors and actresses that you should never miss, when it premiers in Nigeria on August 1st 2014. If you enjoyed ‘The last King of Scotland’, note that the same producer produced ‘Half of a Yellow Sun’.

Tammy starring Melissa McCarty
For any movie to risk premiering when Transformers 4 – Age of extinction was busy tearing down all records is a bold move …and a low budget movie at that! Melissa McCarty’s “Tammy”, might not make all the mega bucks, but ruling US Independence Day (July 4th) release? It definitely is an average movie that is a winner. The comedy made almost 200% of its budget at its premier and cumulated over $40 million USD as at Thursday July 10, 2014. Let Transformers 4 continue to rule, “Warner Bros” knows “Tammy” has made a significant win.
On a scale of 0 – 10, the movie is a 5.
MUSIC
Tangerine by Yemi Alade ft. Selebobo
After taking Africa by storm with “Johnny” and picking up various nominations for the song, Yemi is a girl who knows how to build on established success. Tangerine is her latest effort. The song and music video shows how Yemi is milking every opportunity possible from Johnny’s success. But I will not forget to add my major disappointment with the Clarence Peters directed music video; I looked forward to the kiss between her and Alex Ekubo that generated so much noise and all I got was just a slight brush of lips.

The Followers by Wale – the Meekmill BEEF!
This song was a number one trend the moment it was dropped by Wale as in response to the bad blood going on between him and fellow MMG act, Meekmill. The duo’s troubles can be traced back to October 2011 at the BET awards, when Wale hijacked Meek’s interview, prompting a Meekmill walk out! This new beef came to air, when Meekmill took to twitter to attack ‘Wale in a no-holds barred rant session on twitter. He stated that Wale did and was not doing anything to support his upcoming album, billed for September, 2014. For a rapper of Wale’s status, ‘The Followers’ is an embarrassment and the only thing it’ll do to Meekmill is raise the average rapper’s shoulders and give him a good laugh while listening to it. Please, don’t make the same mistake I made – DO NOT LISTEN to IT!
On a scale of 0 -10, the song is a 2.
