Sitting in my hotel room, I was in another world completely. It is one of the best five stars hotels in the country. It was a much-needed getaway. The perfect timing for deep reflections. No interference. No noise. No distraction. At that point, it exposed me to so much affluence. It got me thinking, ‘Can’t money buy happiness?’.This was because the hotel attendants treated me like a queen in this another world.
Everything I seemed to have craved for was there at my beck and call. Sipping my glass of wine, headphones on, I beheld the window view from my hotel room. It was that part of the world that everyone seemed to be in a rush. The world I was running away from. I had to close the window to enjoy the chilly breeze from the fully air-conditioned room. It was just me and the book I was reading. I had planned out how I spend the next two days in the hotel. I would go swimming, attend the bar, go clubbing, order some Chinese food….make the most of the all expense paid trip.
Lo-and-behold! It was the shortest three days of my life. Time flies when you are having fun, isn’t it? But I left re-energised and with clarity of mind. I needed an extension of my fun-filled stay, but it was back to business. Having been exposed to the highest form of affluence, who says money does not buy happiness? I know, right? At least I left happier and refreshed.
This goes without saying that there are some things money can’t buy e.g. money can buy power, attraction but not genuine love. Money cannot buy character too. It cannot buy good health, neither can it buy manners nor class. Money is a leveller. It brings you many friends, but it can’t buy real friends. Talents, peace of mind and the truth are other things money can never buy. At the end of it all, I learnt to enjoy every moment regardless of the situation. Happiness is free, and it does not have to come with a price tag though.
