Francisca Chioma Mbadigha, a student in the Department of Science Education at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) Awka, has reportedly been kidnapped in Anambra State.
The incident occurred while she was en route to a burial ceremony in a village outside Awka on Friday, April 5, 2024. Despite efforts to contact her, including calls to her phone, she remains unreachable.
A close friend, speaking to Nigerian Tribune, and a schoolmate who preferred to remain anonymous, shared this information. Emma Ojukwu, the Special Assistant on Public Relations Matters and Special Duty to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Charles Esimone, redirected inquiries to the university’s security department.
Confirming the situation, the Chief Security Officer of the University, Ken Chukwurah, stated that the kidnappers have reached out to the student’s family. The incident, however, did not occur within the university premises but during Chioma’s journey to the funeral.
Chukwurah mentioned that relevant security agencies have been informed and are actively involved, though it remains uncertain if any ransom demands have been made at this time
