A lot of people believe yawning is a sign of tiredness or boredom. There is more to yawning as it is a reflex action that happens involuntarily.
Do you know that when you yawn your body is trying to send a message? See below:
1. Another person is yawning beside you
Yawning is contagious. Even thinking about yawning will make you yawn. Even reading a post like this might even make you yawn. This implies that when you sometimes yawn, your body is telling you it just saw someone yawn or you have been thinking or reading about yawning.
2. Your body is trying to regulate its temperature
Yawning has attached to the regulation of body temperature. When you yawn, you open your mouth wide and take in a large amount of air. This action has a cooling effect on the brain as it introduces cooler air into the nasal passages and sinuses.
3. Your body is more alert
Yawning has been found to increase alertness. Yawning before and after activities have been observed to increase attention or focus, such as during transitions from rest to activity or vice versa. So if you find yourself yawning during moments of transition or when engaging in drilling tasks, it could be your body’s way of preparing your brain to stay alert.
