Every lady has natural oils on their scalp known as sebum. Sometimes, there is excess oil in the hair due to hormonal imbalances, over-washing or washing too little or even using too much hair product. This is not good as excess oil clogs your pores, causes dandruff and scalp and stunts normal hair growth. In addition, greasy hair can be hard to style.
Find below 5 ingredients right in your kitchen that can curb excess oil in your hair. They are:
- Black Tea
Black tea is a good source of caffeine and tannic acid which helps to control the excess oil and keep your hair healthy. You will need to brew two tea bags of strong tea. Then sieve the leaves to prevent them from getting stuck in your hair and dilute the mixture. Allow to cool and , pour it on your hair making sure all areas are covered for 15-20 minutes before rinsing.
- Egg yolk
Egg yolk contains sulphur, vitamin E and biotin great for oil control. Its properties tone down the sebum and restore a healthy shine too. You can do only an egg yolk mask occasionally or also add a few drops of lemon juice, which also boosts oil control and balances the strong smell. Allow the mask sit through your hair a few minutes before washing properly.
- Apple Cider Vinegar
This is a natural cleanser that removes oil and product buildup from your pores. It also restores the pH balance and eliminates bacteria as well. Simply dilute a few spoons of the vinegar into a bowl of water and pour it onto your hair after washing and conditioning. Massage it well and leave it for a few minutes before rinsing.
- Yoghurt
Yoghurt mask gently cleanses the hair by removing excess oil and dead skin cells from your scalp. It also helps to maintain a healthy pH level, great for a moisture-oil balance. Just dampen your hair a little and apply the yoghurt. Massage it from your roots to your ends, cover with a shower cap for 20 minutes then wash off with warm water.
- Corn Starch
Corn starch is a natural absorbent. Don’t pour the powder directly on your hair from its container. If you do so, it will dehydrate your hair giving it a pale ash look. Instead, pinch then spread it bit by bit in sections and concentrate on your roots. Lastly, massage to spread it evenly before washing off.
