Francis X. Shen, University of Minnesota The robots are here. Are the “sexbots” close behind? From the Drudge Report to The New York Times, sex robots are rapidly becoming a part of the national conversation about the future of sex and relationships. Behind the headlines, a number of companies are currently developing robots designed to provide humans with companionship and sexual pleasure – with a few already on the market. Unlike sex toys and dolls, which are typically sold in off-the-radar shops and hidden in closets, sexbots may become mainstream. A 2017 survey suggested almost half of Americans think that…

“From Africa to the world” is a popular slogan used by those within the fashion industry. Most aren’t unaware of the impact Africa has within this sector on an international level and the inspiration – though mostly uncredited – gotten from our fashion culture and aesthetic. For a long time, our fashion industry was starved from appreciation within the confines of the continent, until young modern Africans from different parts began to wake up into the enlightenment that African fashion has the potential to burgeon into something remarkable (and of course, rake in considerable funds as a vital sector of…
My dear daughter, If you rely on others or on material things to make you happy in life, you’ll be setting yourself up for constant emotional turmoil and mood swings. This is because your happiness should only depend on you. Choose to be happy in every situation and in every moment of your life. If your happiness was dependent on someone or something else, then you lose the ability to control what happens to you. My dear, everything that exists in this life changes: humans, riches, our bodies, the seasons and climates, what gives us pleasure, friends, our physical and…
Despite being famous for its quick adoption of technology and innovation, a major shakeup is coming for the Nigerian banking industry. A disruption which has finally surfaced barring any last-minute change or a force majeure could see major lenders and financial service providers in Nigeria fighting for their ‘dear lives’. Last week, Nigeria’s largest mobile carrier MTN Nigeria Communications Plc said it has finally acquired its “super-agent” license for its widely-publicized mobile money subsidiary. Also known as mobile money, mobile money transfer or mobile wallet generally refer to payment services operated under financial regulation and performed from or via a…
Stephen Billett, Griffith University This article is part of a series on the future of vocational education and training, exploring issues within the sector and how to improve the decline in enrolments and shortages of qualified people in vocational jobs. Read the other articles in the series here. The low status of vocational education and training (VET) is a growing problem. Many young Australians and their parents don’t consider VET as a potential post-school pathway, even if it might be more suitable for them than university. In an era of high aspiration, VET is often seen as an option only…
No man has a face anymore! With everyone’s bonce buried on the lighten screen clutched in their hands. A man with his eyes glazing the ground knocks a road passer flying, falling on his face after tripping over him. Upon realizing he could see, there arouses an inferno of seethe, and he apologises for his sins. My fear lies more with those behind the wheels. They could die and kill. once I could have been hit, I ran to the other side of the road and he ran straight into a pole. An addiction that sweeps the age has…
Holy Humour The nut is in heaven! A newly-ordained pastor, in the first days of his first call, was attempting to console the widow of an eccentric man who had just died. Standing before the open casket, the nervous young pastor said, “I realize this must be a very hard blow for you, Madam. Just try to remember that what we see before us is only the husk, the shell of your dear husband–the nut has gone to heaven.” Sunday Quote Men never do evil so completely and cheerfully as when they do it from religious conviction. – Blaise Pascal…
Reading 1 Phil 3:3-8a Brothers and sisters: We are the circumcision, we who worship through the Spirit of God, who boast in Christ Jesus and do not put our confidence in flesh, although I myself have grounds for confidence even in the flesh. If anyone else thinks he can be confident in flesh, all the more can I. Circumcised on the eighth day, of the race of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrew parentage, in observance of the law a Pharisee, in zeal I persecuted the Church, in righteousness based on the law I was blameless. But…
Men! Men!! Men!! Is love real? Does love even exist? Now I believe that love is a figment of my imagination. What do men really want in a woman? Does love really keep a man committed? You need to understand why I’m asking these questions. I was born into a respectable family. My siblings and I never lacked anything, we weren’t poor, neither were we rich. I was sent to one of the best schools and got admission into a well-known university. It was during my university days that I met Tayo through an online dating app. We talked online…
Elizabeth Kimani-Murage, African Population and Health Research Center Kenya has, over the past two decades, made tremendous achievements in promoting breastfeeding. The number of babies who were exclusively breastfed for the first six months of their lives rose from just 13% in 2003 to about 61% in 2014. This was achieved largely because of two programmes led by the Ministry of Health: the Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative and the Baby Friendly Community Initiative. The hospital initiative promotes breastfeeding in hospitals at the time of delivery, while the community initiative promotes breastfeeding at home. Breastfeeding is important. It lowers incidences of…
