Our Woman Crush this Wednesday is none other than Sibusiso Mdlongwa, also known as Busi. As the founder of the Foundation for African Black Women Eagles (FABWE), she is successfully carrying out the mission of uplifting young black African women.
Busi’s journey began while she was at Rhodes University studying for her Honours degree in Organisational Psychology. At Rhodes, she worked with young students in various roles including tutoring and lecturing. She went on to complete her master’s degree at the University of Cape Town – also in Organisational Psychology – where she graduated with distinction. For over a decade since graduating she has worked across different industries in varied roles.
She climbed steadily up the corporate ladder in consulting roles at Allan Gray, EY and Accenture. Using all the experience she had gained, and with the innate desire to support the growth of her fellow African women, Busi launched FABWE in South Africa in March 2021. FABWE is an organisation that supports young African women in their quest to rise to the top of their fields of endeavour by equipping them with leadership, problem-solving, and entrepreneurship skills. These skills will allow them to be agile, easily adapt and take up opportunities in a fast-paced, competitive, and constantly evolving global environment.
FABWE is working to expand to other African countries in the coming years, and we at Pride Magazine Nigeria can’t wait to see what the future has in store for Busi. We are certainly rooting for her as her strides in supporting female empowerment is for the good of all.
