We Are One (Ole Ola) by Pitbull, Jennifer Lopez and Claudia Leitte
We were all surprised when earlier in the week Jennifer Lopez’s representative spoke on CNN that ‘JLo’ would not be performing Brazil 2014 theme song, ‘We Are One’ with others at the World Cup opening ceremony, citing production issues through her representative… but thanks to whoever made it happen, ‘JLo’ performed at the opening with others and in the spirit of the world cup we say, ‘Let the Best team Win!’ This still did not take away the fact that scoring the song in comparison with previous world cup songs, makes it an okay song – “Waka Waka” by Shakira at South Africa 2010 world cup would floor it any day!
On a scale of 0 -10, the song is a 5.5.
Fly Like the Eagles by Sasha, Iceprince, Seyi Shay, Dammy Krane and Nosa
When telecommunication giant, Etisalat decided to bring different Nigerian stars to come up with a song for the Nigerian football team’s campaign at Brazil 2014 I don’t think they envisaged a song that’ll be perfect once Nigeria’s Super Eagles get a goal! Give it to NOSA who wrote this song, he is a talented guy and will definitely go places. This track and Flavour’s “Power to Win” stand out among the crowd of songs dedicated to the same purpose – Super Eagles’ 2014 World cup campaign!
On a scale of 0 – 10, the song is a 5.5.
Movies
Edge of Tomorrow starring Tom Cruise, Emily Blunt.
When you have the director of Bourn Identity, Mr and Mrs Smith working on a Hollywood movie, you expect it to do better than make major revenues outside of the US. With Tom Cruise playing the lead role, we expected it to rake in unimaginable cinema revenue. And a $175 million USD budget (Cruise’s most expensive), you expect more. At number three, with “Fault in Our Stars” at number one, I know even Warner Bros will be more disappointed than I am, but at least they’ve got the Chinese Box office to thank. I wouldn’t mind my movie failing elsewhere, but doing well in China! Tom Cruise starred as Bill Cage, but Emily blunt is that Badass babe you would not want to miss. This is an action movie you would enjoy.
On a scale of 0 – 10, this movie is a 6.5.
Make a Move starring Ivie Okujaye, Denrele Edun, Omawumi, Beverly Naya.
2Face, Omawumi and Denrele might’ve made appearances in this movie, but I’ll give it to you straight, don’t expect much from them or the production crew, but the lead actress, Ivie Okujaye? YES! This is a story of over 75% of Nigerian youths growing up in the slums and ghettos of Nigeria. It’s been a while I saw reality in a Nollywood movie; especially on the face, voice and tears of Ivie Okujaye when she said: “…that is the one thing that helps me forget about how broke I am or how messed up my family is or how stressful my life is!” I’ll watch this movie, over and over again!
On a scale of 0 -10, this movie is a 5.
