Like most of you, I never believed in Love at first sight. The idea that a feeling bearing such magnitude can be felt with no prior encounter just seemed ridiculous to me. How can I love someone who hasn’t proved to be worthy of my love yet? (Don’t blame me; I had a deep-rooted trust issue.) Holding on to my decision was…

One of the most remarkable public health successes of the last decade in southern Africa has been a reduction in the number of babies born with HIV. This was achieved through the provision of antiretroviral therapy to pregnant and breastfeeding women living with HIV. For example, the number of new HIV infections in children in South Africa has come down from a peak of 70 000 in 2003 to 13 000 in 2017. Nevertheless, worldwide there are still an estimated 14.8 million children under the age of 15 who were born HIV uninfected but have been exposed to their mother’s HIV during pregnancy.…

…Continued from Chapter Eight. “Good day ma’am, it’s nice to meet you, my name is doctor Obi and I’ll be in charge of your sessions” First off, I was shocked at how young and good looking this psychotherapist was. His voice was so soothing; it could put anyone to sleep. “I guess all this charm is part of the credentials one needs to be a psychotherapist,” I thought to myself. “Hi, I am Ebun,” I said, still recovering from the daze and a little short of words. “I like to establish trust before I start a session with patients,” he…

From boyfriend jeans to granddad blazers, womenswear is taking a large chunk of inspiration from menswear and owning the entire block. (Who says women can’t do it better than men?) On the shelf of newly appropriated fashion items is the dad sneakers (Yep! Dad’s aren’t safe from our wardrobe raiding tactics, either). Like the other demasculinized pieces, the dad sneakers would have never caught our attention even if we weren’t in the right frame of mind. But in fashion, it’s unwise to say ‘never’. Who wants to wear their dad’s sneakers, anyway? The stylish and cool kids wouldn’t mind; they’ve…

The start of a new relationship always has one feeling happy and excited. The feeling is beautiful. It’s at this stage that the first major disagreement or fight may occur. This initial disagreement may make one or both parties feel really terrible. A relationship between two people is bound to be wavy, but, when it gets frequent, it may be a sign that the relationship is in trouble and in need of an intervention. Believe me, breakups can…

My boss, my friend and brother, Michael Chibuzor Anyiam-Osigwe, today November 29, 2018 completes four years when the crude brutality of your death left us with an alluvion of tears and a philosophical puzzle on the antinomy of life and death. Deriving from the ineptitude of the Nigerian State, armed robbers brought you down in a rain of bullets on a sunny afternoon. The country had no project for your security and never found the vendors of that horrendous assault on a national asset as you. That is still the state of the nation even today. Driven by the magnetic…
