This year’s Democracy Day celebration witnessed a remarkable show in Calabar, Cross River State, as Nigeria’s A-list highlife singer, Sunny Neji took his home-state by the storm with a back to back comedy and music entertainment show.
The event, which was tagged ‘Laugh and Quench’, held at the Cultural Centre, bringing together top comic and music divers to scintillate audiences from all walks of life with exceptional performances.
Among the top comic artistes who made spotlight at the show were I Go Dye, I Go Save and Gandoki; while the popular musicians who headlined stunning performances include J. Martins, Ice Prince and the convener, Sunny Neji.
Speaking during the event, Nneji, who runs Impakt Records Production, through which the event was organized said the show which is expected to hold yearly is a way of complementing other entertainment events in the state.
According to Neji, a Cross River tourism ambassador, “the state government has positioned Cross River as the preferred tourist destination, I’m creating something else for them to add in the entertainment calendar, so people keep coming to the state from January to December, not just during Christmas alone.
“I have no other home but Cross River that’s why I’m always here every time to give my best; and I’m out there trying as best as I can to represent the state.”
Other artistes who put up enthralling performances were comic idols such as Monkals, Last Prophet, Robert Ekpo, and MC Mbakara. Other music acts at the show include: Real P Ajaba, Nfaso, and GYC.
The concert also had celebrities and top government officials such as the Commissioner of Information, Mr. Akin Riket; former Commissioner of Finance, Mr. Chris Agibe; music veterans, King Fela Ade, and Blacky among others.
