A Liberian man reportedly aggrieved that the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare had attributed his brother’s death to the deadly Ebola virus, has set part of the ministry building ablaze in an inexplicable act of revenge.
One of the conference rooms of the Ministry’s building got burnt out as a result.
The man (name withheld) is chatting with the Monrovia Police after his arrest in Congo Town.
The misguided and vengeful action of the arsonist was said to be in connection with the death of his brother over which the Ministry gave the “wrong impression” that it was from Ebola viral disease.
The Deputy Health Minister (Administration), Hon. Matthew T. K. Flomo, the perpetrator was arrested minutes after security officers assigned at the compound of the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare raised alarmed about the fire outbreak in the building.
By-standers who saw the action disclosed that the perpetrator visited the Ministry on Tuesday and Wednesday before committing the arson and that he had even asked a question during the programme with the President at the ministry.
The perpetrator was initially arrested by PROSECON, a private security firm owned by former lawmaker, Saah Gborlie, who handed him over to the Liberia National Police.
