Global output growth remained weak in the second half of 2015 as evidenced by the decline in projected output growth to 3.1 per cent, lower than the 3.4 per cent recorded in 2014. Some roads in parts of Lagos state witnessed traffic snarl as Nigeria’s main trade union federation pressed ahead with a general strike, despite a court injunction against the action. The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) announced the strike after the government raised fuel prices by 67%. Unknown attackers have blown up a gas pipeline belonging to Italy’s ENI in the Niger Delta. Rueters reports that residents and the company confirmed the incident, which is the latest in a string of attacks on oil and gas facilities in the impoverished region. Federal government plan concession arrangements with private investors to finance rehabilitation works in four of the country’s four major airports namely, Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos, Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano and the Port Harcourt International Airport. Iran has ramped up production quickly but the IEA still says the oil market is close to coming back into balance. The International Energy Agency said Thursday that higher than expected Iranian oil production has helped stabilize the global oil market by offsetting concerns generated by wildfires in Canada and violence in Nigeria.
