If you attended a Nigerian school, it is most likely you wore any of the sandals listed below. Sandals were the acceptable footwear. They are usually accompanied with white socks, though in some other cases they may be coloured. This depends on the school uniform.
Though our forefathers attended school barefooted, as civilisation gently made way, we had to start wearing footwear. The only time footwear was not allowed was when it was against the school rules. A teacher can punish a student to remove his/her sandals to stand on the bare ground under the scorching sun.
Most times, every school had its standard footwear. Some encouraged the wearing of leather sandals, others didn’t. In other cases, rubber sandals became the norm. There was a particular footwear that was reserved for the elites- Bata. This was for we called ‘Aje butters’, who were born with silver spoons.
